Remove Secondary Axis on Dynamics 365 Charts

If you’ve just added a second series to a Dynamics 365 chart or a report and there’s no need for a secondary axis – here’s how to remove it.

You might not want the extra axis because using two would display the data in a misleading way. Like in the example below – you want the sell and cost price on the same axis.

It’s easy to remove the extra axis

Take a look at this example.

  • You’ve added an extra series in the chart editor and the second axis has appeared.

  • To remove the axis, choose Export from the 3 dot menu
export chart settings to XML
  • Open the downloaded file in Notepad
  • Look for the text ‘secondary‘ using edit > find or Ctrl+F
  • Delete the text YAxisType=”Secondary”
The downloaded XML
  • Save the file and close it
  • Then back in Dynamics, choose import from the 3 dot menu
  • Select the file you just edited
  • Click import and choose replace to overwrite the existing chart
  • You’ll now see the secondary axis has disappeared. That’s it!
