Mark’s reciting verse today, but don’t worry, there’s a good reason.
In this episode, Series Four of our business case, we’re looking at when people say CRM is great and useful, but it’s just not the right time. What is the right time?
Let me use today’s prop. Today’s prop is my mobile phone, and it has an inspirational quote on it, which I should read. ‘We don’t know the stars will never align, and the traffic lights of life will never all be green at the same time. The universe doesn’t conspire against you, but it doesn’t go out of its way to line up the pins either. Conditions are never perfect. “Someday” is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you. Pro and con lists are just as bad. If it’s important to you and you want to do it eventually, just do it, and correct the course along the way.’ That’s by Tim Ferriss, author of the 4-Hour Workweek.
It’s really important here because whenever you delay something in your business as important as getting systems, like a CRM, in place, you are impacting the growth of your business. There will always be something that you can say is a higher priority, but actually, when you’re working with a trusted partner who can take a lot of the effort off your hands and guide you along the process, it can be an enjoyable journey. You can see the tangible benefits it is going to bring to your business.
The reason I’m stood in front of our Huddersfield Town sponsorship board for the 2017-18 season is that if I’d deliberated over this and thought, ‘Well, it’s not the right time,’ then actually, we would have missed out on some absolutely fantastic opportunities that have taken our business from here to here over the last 12 months. So, I’m absolutely delighted that I didn’t procrastinate, that I didn’t think, ‘I’m going to wait a couple of months until conditions are a little bit better.’ I thought with Tim Ferriss’s approach, and I actually just jumped in, became a commercial sponsor of Huddersfield Town, and the business has flown since then.
So maybe you can adapt that kind of thinking to your business. There is never a perfect time. The stars of the universe won’t align for your CRM system. But maybe, just maybe, it’s something that you should put as a higher priority on your list.
