This week Mark is asking where the gold is… what will he find???
Hi, Mark here on another episode of AMS TV. Today, we’ll be diving into part three of our five-part series on whether you should properly sort out your own business systems.
As I’m on my way to client sites, I often find that things haven’t been done the way they should have the first time around. And this leads me to introduce what I like to call “BGQs” – Bloody Good Questions.
One of the reasons for previous failures is that consultants haven’t truly consulted. They haven’t asked the right questions to understand why businesses are struggling with inadequate systems, reports, or user adoption. Over time, without asking these vital questions, the understanding of business processes becomes flawed.
Simple questions like, “Why do we have this status against our customer record?” or “Why do we generate a quote at particular points in time?” are often overlooked or dismissed. But if we don’t ask these questions, we end up assuming too much and making mistakes.
Many consultancies are hesitant to ask these questions because they perceive them as basic or assume business owners already know the answers. However, it’s crucial to go back to basics and ensure we’re asking the right questions to uncover the depth of understanding needed for a successful system implementation.
When you’re uncertain about the output of a systems project, it’s essential to re-evaluate and ask yourself if you’re asking the right questions. Your consultant should engage you in a conversation that delves into the “why, why, why” to gain a thorough understanding of your business processes. This engaging dialogue is the key to embedding a proper system across your organization.
I hope you found this information valuable as we explored the importance of asking bloody good questions and understanding business processes. Stay tuned for the next episode of AMS TV. Bye for now!
